The Impact of Injuries on the Mental Health of Athletes
Vighová, Kristýna ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Panská, Šárka (referee)
The thesis deals with the issue of athletes returning to training and match process after injury, with focus on their mental health. The goal is to indentify negative psychological states that subsequently affect the performance of athletes, and their frequency in athletes returning to the training and match process after injury. A sub-goal is to find out the following possible variables involved in increasing/moderating these conditions. The work verifies the frequency of occurence of negative psychological states; investigates the influence of repeated injuries, differences between woman and man athletes, differences in individual and team athletes, and also verifies the frequency of use of coping strategies an their specific form. The work is devided into a theoretical and a research part. The theoretical part was prepared on the basis of Czech and foreign language professional literature. In the research part,we use the psychological questionnaire CSAI-2 to determine the occurrence of anxiety and its influence on the performance of individuals in sportsman, who have suffered injuries. We expected that the injury would increase the athletes's anxiety at the time of returning to the training and match process. The Solution to the Mind-Body Problem in Searle's Philosophy of Mind
Popelář, Jan ; Kranát, Jan (advisor) ; Moural, Josef (referee)
This paper studies the mind-body problem in Searle's philosophy of mind. It thoroughly evaluates his criticism of the philosophical tradition and the scientifc methodology. As he argues, the former has been misleading us with its dualistic distinctions and the latter has been pushing us into various forms of reductionism. Most importantly, though, it examines his proposed solution to the mind-body problem, his defnition of consciousness, intentionality, subjectivity, and in addition, his famous "Chinese room" argument disputing claims of strong AI proponents. Although this paper does deal with many of the problems his claims and theories inherently contain, it is primarily meant to outline Searle's view on consciousness and its implications in the context of the mind-body problem tradition, rather than to be an extensive elaboration of his one specifc thesis. It focuses in detail on the mental concentration of players, which is related to concentration, fatigue and depression, for example, and explains what influences all of them, why they are important in sport, and which factors can affect it negatively. Title: Actual mental states affecting performance in tennis Objectives: The main goal of this work is to detect mental states of Petra Kvitova, playing against Caroline Wozniacki and find out whether they affect her performance. Moreover I aim for presenting new programme Break2win and finally I intend to make the topic of sport psychology more available for others. Methods: I have been working with a completely new programme called Break2win which has helped me with detecting mental states of Petra Kvitová. The programme is divided into three parts - protocol, statistics and comparison of the players. I have used all of them to describe and analyse the match. Results: I have been successful in finding many situations which could affect mental state of Petra Kvitová. These situations happened repeatedly, therefore I have been able to identify them and summarize the whole match as far as psyche is concerned. Keywords: tennis, mental states, performance
